I'm posting a few pictures from 5th grade RTI where we're researching pollen and enlarging the pollen grain from a 3D microscopic image. There are some amazing colors, shapes, and textures on those lil guys that make us itch and sneeze. Here are the links we used below, micronaut.ch makes prints and sells these to medical professionals, etc. Check out some of their other microphotos! http://www.micronaut.ch/product-category/pollen-sem/ http://www.amusingplanet.com/2011/03/pollen-grains-under-microscope.html I'm also including their plant and animal cell research and watercolors! 2nd grade made jellyfish after learning about where they live and their MANY different sizes and shapes. Students selected a Warm (Orange, Yellow, Red) or Cool (Blue, Purple, Green) color scheme for their water and blended their colors, then drew their jellyfish on top and added seaspray with texture tools covered in white paint. We've started talking about Balance and Symmetry in all the grades. This are 3rd grade's projects , the first is a Japanese form of art called Notan which means using light and dark to create harmony. Students used the straight edges of a black square to draw organic/geometric shapes to cut out and flip in the opposite direction to create positive and negative space. The next Balanced project students used their name in cursive to create a name monster. Their name was written and then transferred on a line of symmetry to create a mirror image. Then they had to design a monster using the lines and shapes of their cursive name. Check back this week for some more end of the year updates!
I just want to thank those of you that came to support MES and your students at the annual Sumner Co. Elementary Art Show @ Volunteer State Community College. Below is a list of the selected artists, I will say we had quite a beautiful display! I'm very proud of each of you and all of my artists who work hard every day to stretch their imagination and skills! We have 6 more weeks of school, which means about 6 more times with you, then I'll post information about the art camp I'm hosting at the Millersville Community Center! Micah M.

Most students received a colorized order form complete with student artwork example included for visual reference. Some students did not finish in time due to illness, snow days, etc. and brought home their actual artwork for viewing. This will need to be returned with your order and be sent off for scanning ASAP. Below are two photos identifying How and Where to Order. It is a generic one and was included with the late artwork. You may contact me through the Contact Page on here or via [email protected]. Thank you and I appreciate your artists working so hard on these projects. You can order online with the directions by #1. When entering your order online you may sign in as a guest and input our school's name. This is just to protect identities of our students. You may enter as a guest or create a sign in.
These are the end results of 4th grades cylinder study focusing on the art of Wayne Thiebaud. See the previous post for examples and a video! Students used oil pastels to mimmick the impasto look that Wayne Thiebaud used. These are Food Webs a la STEAM style for 5th grade RTI. STEAM means Science, Technology, Engineering, Art(s), and Mathematics. Students chose their favorite animal and then researched within that food chain to create a visual food web. 2nd grade continued their owl studies and discussed the anatomy of an owl and used Model Magic to create a small sculpture that will be painted next week. These will also become magnets. 3rd grade worked on these weavings for a while after we discussed different cultures that weave and create using these techniques. Students learned the basic elements of weaving using a loom=cardboard pizza box, warp=white string, and weft=colored string that is weaved in horizontally. Students chose their colors and patterns then I displayed them taking advantage of the triangle shape. They're lovely! Well done 3rd grade!
We've been gradually working our way into the beginning of Winter with a few brightly colored projects. I like to keep the hallway a little brighter in the Winter months. January we'll concentrate more on snow and ice. Here's a few of the art pieces we're working on that will also be part of the Art to Remember Fundraiser in the spring. Second grade (2nd) has been using line, shape, and color to develop pattern with weaving and now Owls. We watched The Little White Owl storybook and used a few owl books for inspiration. Fifth grade (5th) has been working on Andy Warhol inspired self-portraits. Using basic outlines in ink and watercolor/acrylic backgrounds. The nice bright colors contrast well with the lines that make up the students' face. We've been working on patterns and how we can use patterns in different ways. First grade used their names as lines and repeated shapes. Second grade used construction paper crayons on black paper to create Crazy Hair in lines and color patterns. Third grade used Line Lions and developed color and shape patterns. Fourth grade is still working on their Gustav Klimt inspired quilts and 5th grade is finishing their weaving- you can see one students' use of the finished product below! Also there are a few videos that explain LINE and PATTERN. Hope everyone has a wonderful Fall Break! See you on October 19th! * ART CLUB will meet OCTOBER 29th, flyers have been sent home* Welcome back to MES! I'm so excited to spend 2015-2016 with you! I hope your summer has treated you really well and you're ready for some colorful fun with ART! We are working on some group projects to get to know one another and learn our art procedures. I am located in a new room so I will post a video on what it looks like in a few days. Please check back because ART CLUB will be starting in September and forms will be sent home at the end of next week. I look forward to seeing you soon!
There will be no Art Club this week for our third Thursday.
ART CLUB!! Is this THURSDAY- Jan. 22nd, I'm so excited to be able to do this Chihuly glass project with you! If you are in 4th or 5th next year we will be doing this project again! See the post below about the artist to see what beautiful colors he uses.
Art to Remember is due Februrary 2nd, all the proceeds go to funding our art program. I really want to make it possible for all grade levels to experience CLAY! I need your TRASH! The art room still needs cereal boxes or other thin cardboard that students can cut with scissors. I have not received any 2-liter bottles of any kind. 4th grade really needs those for their monster project. If you have any toliet/paper towel rolls 2nd grade needs those. A big THANK YOU to those of you that have already donated your recyclables. |
