These are the end results of 4th grades cylinder study focusing on the art of Wayne Thiebaud. See the previous post for examples and a video! Students used oil pastels to mimmick the impasto look that Wayne Thiebaud used. These are Food Webs a la STEAM style for 5th grade RTI. STEAM means Science, Technology, Engineering, Art(s), and Mathematics. Students chose their favorite animal and then researched within that food chain to create a visual food web. 2nd grade continued their owl studies and discussed the anatomy of an owl and used Model Magic to create a small sculpture that will be painted next week. These will also become magnets. 3rd grade worked on these weavings for a while after we discussed different cultures that weave and create using these techniques. Students learned the basic elements of weaving using a loom=cardboard pizza box, warp=white string, and weft=colored string that is weaved in horizontally. Students chose their colors and patterns then I displayed them taking advantage of the triangle shape. They're lovely! Well done 3rd grade!
