Kindergarten learned to use scissors and reviewed their shapes by cutting out Pizza Toppings: Rectangles for Cheese, Circles for Pepperoni, Squares for Peppers, Ovals for Olives, and Triangles for Onions. Below I included a video of some trick pizza dough tossing because we talked about how we turn the dough into a circle. We watched about 1 minute. It's amazing what you can do with a ball of dough! 1st Grade read the story Go Away Big Green Monster or Glad Monster, Sad Monster to see what different types of monsters we could make. We talked about how different monsters have different SHAPES. Each student selected one solid color for the geometric head- oval, circle, rectangle, square, triangle, etc. and then they shared their scrap paper for more color variety for the rest of their monster. 3rd Grade is using their knowledge of pattern making by weaving a basket using 2 colors in a continuous pattern. They are also using the over/under technique to weave the yarn around the slits in the styrofoam cups.

1st grade finished their "Dream Vacation" using various lines we discussed in class. Lines tell stories, lines become shapes, lines turn into pictures. You can click on the gallery below to enlarge the images so you can see the details. We will be working on shapes next! 2nd grade Using the various lines we discussed in class students had to show these different lines within the hair for their" Bad Hair Day." These drawings could be as silly, or as real as they wanted them to be. I thought these were great examples of how different one idea could look. Great job everyone! 3rd grade discussed what it means to make a pattern. A pattern can be anything that repeats. Some students kept the idea of pattern going by using color pattern inside their lines. Students then had to create a habitat for their" Line Lions", you'll see lion cubs and Kings and Queens of the Jungle.
1st grade is moving right along on week two of Lines. Lines make shapes and shapes make pictures. We are made of lines, we wear lines, we write our name with lines, and we draw with lines. Artists had to use lines to draw their dream vacation. Here are some examples, see if you can name a few of the lines they used in their picture. 2nd grade has reviewed their lines and line names. So we took those lines and made them into a mess of crazy hair! We will color these over the week. 3rd grade discussed the meaning of pattern. How can we use lines to make a pattern? Students agreed that a pattern is something that repeats. Making a play on words for our Line Lions, we drew the body together and then added lines to create a personalized pattern. Artists made sure to create a habitat as well. 4th and 5th are creating sketchbooks to keep in the room for journaling and doodling. Students used their first names in a playful font. We looked at graffiti names to see how to make them colorful and 3D. Students discussed what graffiti is and where it's found. When it's legal and illegal. The key is to create a shadow to create the illusion of depth. I'm super excited to see the color on these when they're finished. Want to try out a website that allows you to try out your name in graffiti style? Click on the blue link.
Graffiti Creator- A free website that allows you to type in your name and changes it to graffiti by adding colors and shadows by making it appear 3-D. First grade reviewed lines and how to fold the paper to make different lines. Zig-zag, curly, and wavy are just a few you will see in these pictures. Students thought the end result looked like a skate park, playground, or robot by the time they finished! Great job and trying something new today. |
