Kindergarten learned to use scissors and reviewed their shapes by cutting out Pizza Toppings: Rectangles for Cheese, Circles for Pepperoni, Squares for Peppers, Ovals for Olives, and Triangles for Onions. Below I included a video of some trick pizza dough tossing because we talked about how we turn the dough into a circle. We watched about 1 minute. It's amazing what you can do with a ball of dough! 1st Grade read the story Go Away Big Green Monster or Glad Monster, Sad Monster to see what different types of monsters we could make. We talked about how different monsters have different SHAPES. Each student selected one solid color for the geometric head- oval, circle, rectangle, square, triangle, etc. and then they shared their scrap paper for more color variety for the rest of their monster. 3rd Grade is using their knowledge of pattern making by weaving a basket using 2 colors in a continuous pattern. They are also using the over/under technique to weave the yarn around the slits in the styrofoam cups.
